Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu was designed by Dr. Moses Powell during the late 1960s. This martial art was designed incorporating Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Boxing and a Filipino style known as Arnis (a.k.a. Eskrima and Kali). We focus heavily on street based fighting tactics but also utilize sport based training in order to gain experience and bring in strength and stamina principles into our combatives.
Our Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu program supplements our Krav Maga classes by providing our Krav students:
- More Grappling and Ground Fighting
- More Throws
- More Weapons Use and Defenses
- Emphasizing Adaptation
- Introducing Soft Style Techniques that can complement Krav Maga's hard style techniques
The overlap of many of the techniques taught in our Krav Maga classes makes it easy for students to follow and grow in both systems at the same time. Think of it as being similar to a double major.
Here's a few quick answers to commonly asked questions regarding our Sanuces Ryu classes:
Do I need prior experience to join up?
No, you don't. We accept beginners regardless of whether or not you have any prior martial arts experience at all, but you do have to enrolled in our Krav Maga classes to participate.
Do I need to be in shape to join up?
No, you don't. Part of including our conditioning drills as part of our Krav classes is to help students improve their cardiovascular fitness and strength.
What do I need to do to check out the classes?
Just drop by on one of our class nights. We'll have a liability waiver for you to sign before you can jump in an participate, but once this paperwork is done, you'll be able to join in for the night at no cost to you.
Do I need a Gi?
Eventually, yes. But don't fret if you don't have one when you get started. If you need a Gi, you are free to purchase one on your own, or you can talk to one of our instructors about ordering a Gi through us. We generally prefer you have it by the time of your first belt test, but you'll appreciate having one when we work on throwing.
How much does a Gi cost?
It varies depending on size, brand and whether you choose to order through us or purchase one on your own.
What color Gi do you use?
What if I already have a Gi?
If it's black, you've lucked out and likely won't need to get a new one. If it's not black, feel free to use the Gi you have until you're able to get a black one for class.
Do you have classes for kids?
We're sorry. But we don't currently have a program for kids. We generally limit our class enrollment to adults, but we will consider making exceptions for families with children aged 13+.
